NOBU, Barcelona.

Vistas magníficas a Barcelona

NOBU, Barcelona.

Barcelona deserved a Nobu. Cities like New York, London, Mexico City, Milan, Melbourne, Los Angeles and Tokyo could already enjoy its Japanese fine dining, in addition to Spanish locations Marbella and Ibiza. And now the Catalan capital is finally getting its turn.

Magnificent views of Barcelona

The restaurant is at the top of the new Nobu Hotel in Barcelona (in Torre Catalunya), a privileged location in and of itself. There are 360º views and different spaces like the sushi bar, the central dining room and Matsuhisa’s table for a special personal experience with more privacy.

For me, this is the best one so far in Spain, well above the Marbella and Ibiza locations. The dishes remain true to the style, flavour and cooking of Nobus worldwide. The delicious amuse bouche of edamame with peanuts open a tasting menu that, in these first weeks after opening, let you discover a universe of sushi with the chef’s selection of an €80 omakase (we chose this for this first visit). Highlights included the singular and delicious black cod (marinated in miso and lightly grilled with that sweet and personal touch), the Wagyu beef tobanyaki with mushrooms and asparagus (fantastic and filling), and, of course, the wonderful sashimi and nigiri served directly at the bar by the sushi chef. The hamachi with jalapeño and the salmon are the best. Other strong points were the scallops served with miso sauce and the simple and delicious maki.

A variety of desserts (don’t miss the selection of flavoured mochis) and a good selection of wines and sakes round out the experience.

Nobu is a sure bet and already overrun with visitors and foreigners spending a few hours in Barcelona. Its proximity to Sants Station makes it highly convenient, even on your way to catching a train.
