VIA VENETO, Barcelona.

VIA VENETO, Barcelona

There is little that hasn’t already been said about this culinary classic in Barcelona. Via Veneto is an experience, a temple of excellence in both the kitchen and dining room, and clear proof of the fact that the classics never go out of style.

Dining at Via Veneto is an experience from the start. The doorman that takes care of parking the car is friendly and attentive; the coat check personnel, the entrance hall where the Monje family greets visitors with a friendly welcome, and the entrance to the dining room – a salon that still holds the echoes of the parties and never-ending meals that Salvador Dalí hosted in its rooms… Decorated in salmon and gold tones, this space is always full of surprises. Someone you know is always seated at its tables, or you encounter a visual spectacle that might involve a simple act like that of peeling an orange, transformed into a ritual of experience and meticulous care; or the preparation of the delicious Crêpes Suzette, one of the obligatory dishes at this restaurant.

A Barcelona classic. 1 Michelin star.

On this visit, we opt for the White Truffle menu on the advice and guidance of Pere Monje.

Escudella transformed into a dry Martini, country bread with marrow and white truffle, tagliolini carbonara, “Calaf” (first laying) egg with baby squid, and petit poulet de la bresse (small chicken from Bresse, France) with wild mushroom risotto, all of which was aromatized and seasoned with the precious autumn-winter truffles. And on it continued to the dessert, a rice pudding served tromp el’oeil like a fried egg, and accompanied by this delicate morsel. Delicious.

Chef Sergio Humada is another mainstay of this restaurant, bringing youth and new blood to the kitchen together with the most regal culinary tradition of this establishment. You can also depend on the friendly, cordial and extremely pleasant manner of themaitre, Javier, or the sommelier José. A great family that represents years of experience and anecdotes at the helm of the neurological center of fine dining in Barcelona. Like all great classics, it is an experience that everyone should have at least once in their lifetime. And one should also let themselves get carried away by the echoes of history that are woven into its tablecloths. If only the walls of Via Veneto could talk!
