Next to Montbar.

After confirming the corner of Aribau and Diputación streets as a culinary hotspot at Montbar a few days ago, this time we opted for the updated modern cuisine of Mediamanga , which shares chefs Jaume Marambio and Fran Agudo with that other Iván Castro establishment.

Small plates and good wines are always a smart formula. This restaurant is smaller in size, perhaps the little brother of Montbar, but it fights hard to keep up gastronomically with originality and good decisions.

The ham croquettes are wonderful and creamy; the anchovy and coconut is correct and surprising; and the tatin of eggplant, mustard and burrata is unexpected. I especially liked the sea bass tiradito with corn and avocado gazpachuelo soup and the lightly roasted marinated red mullet with foie, as well as the mushroom carpaccio with Comté cheese, perfectly mild and light.

We would be remiss not to order the Royal cucumbers in carbonara, already a classic on the restaurant’s menu, one of those dishes that sticks in your memory for years. We culminated the meal with a T-bone steak with delicious potatoes, and a crunchy Pont-neuf millefeuille for a perfect finish.

Mediamanga has become a great place to end the work day or begin the afternoon. I like the honesty on display, the hard work being done (they are open seven days a week) to boost and strengthen the city’s culinary centers, and the willingness to take risks. I admire the small plates that welcome these shifts and that places that acclimate to achieve the perfect harmony between kitchen and diner. I’d highlight the attentive service aimed at making a special moment of the experience.

Oh! By the way…someone let me know the day they put the playlist of both restaurants on Spotify or Apple Music and I’ll be the first to download it. It’s packed with rhythm and blues, disco and funk from the 60s, 70s and 80s!!
