The Fat Duck, Bray, London. At times it can be truly hard to put certain things into words; the sensations, the feelings, the experiences, the flavors, the colors and even the emotions that a gastronomic journey can evoke. On what was really a very special weekend for us, we launched ourselves into the adventure of returning for the second time to what has been frequently considered the best restaurant in the world, and what is currently one of the reference points for global gastronomy. The trip is well worth it, and the arrival to this very Londonesque little house located in the small town of Bray only serves to increase expectations for an experience that, no matter what else happens, will not leave you indifferent.
Menu full of optical illusions. Fun, original, intriguing, unique
The service is excellent, superb, attentive and obliging. Though not terribly large, the space is comfortable and the menu begins, an adventure during which chef Heston Blumenthal reflects the imaginary and real travels of his childhood. The experience invites you to discover, play, choose, eat breakfast while having lunch, and prepare yourself for the after-dinner liqueurs, to take a sip of a broth that is at once hot and cold, to feast on the English countryside, to savor your tea exactly as Alice does in Wonderland and prepare your floating cushion for the sweetest of gastronomic dreams. Everything has improved since our last visit. The Sweet Shop is automatic, as if it were a cartoon fantasy; the transition from dish to dish is lighter and more fun – if that’s even possible – and the flavors are full of fantastic explosions and delicious taste combinations. A magical adventure, sweet and delicious, unreal but tangible, a journey through the world of the chef, who keeps bringing us the most tender aromas of a candy shop, seen through the eyes of a boy, and the intense flavor of a gumdrop of pure Scottish whiskey.
Meticulously detailed, attentive and deliciously friendly, the entire team sends us off with a lovely memento of our visit, framed within a family celebration that, without a doubt, will linger in my memory as long as this incredible and highly recommended experience does… Magical!
To experience the delight of an authentic gastronomic adventure, a wonderful journey that one should embark upon in the best of company.
