AGRESTES FABIO & ROSER, Barcelona

AGRESTES FABIO & ROSER, Barcelona

The owners claim that the first chords of the gastronomic symphony presented by this small and cozy restaurant in Barcelona’s El Carmel neighborhood grew from the weeds (mala hierba) on their land. Agrestes is an interesting offering of local cuisine; produce that comes directly from its owners’ garden, along with a large dose of passion and delicate preparations. Vegetables that taste like vegetables, and creations that are both crunchy and excellently fried.

Healthy, organic food. Original small plates

Highlights include the perfect breading on the squid with caramelized lemon peel (excellent as an appetizer), the baked pumpkin with black garlic, parmesan and red onion (I would come back for this dish alone, no doubt), the excellent bluefin tuna (parpatana, or chin, charcoal grilled, with Jerusalem artichokes and sea lettuce), the risotto (creamy and mild), etc. An original and carefully chosen selection of simple dishes, with an important presence of organic vegetables that have been treated delicately and with a lot of affection. The space, the service and the dishes all transmit the care that has been taken with the selection and presentation of the menu. They also offer an extremely interesting lunch menu for under 15€, as well as morning brunch and the option of a tasting menu so as to sample all of the specialties.

A good place to keep in mind for surprising your friends, a romantic dinner with your partner, or dropping by for a meal for one. Unfortunately, “dropping by” is not as easy as it sounds because the worst thing about this restaurant, without a doubt, is the location. Situated in a difficult-to-reach area of hills and steep streets, it is impossible to park here. Although, now that I think about it, maybe this just adds to its “charm.”
