Toda la familia implicada en el negocio, el mejor chino de la ciudad
Que la comida o cena sea un rato agradable, de disfrute y lleno de recuerdos…. Así es como conocí, hace ya muchos años, a la familia KAO. José María y Mercedes, trabajadores, valientes y, sobretodo, afamados padres de tres bellezones asiáticos con raíces gallegas (¡viva Galicia!) que no sólo lucen belleza exterior sino también inteligencia, coherencia y buen saber hacer, como el que demuestran día a día Nayan Kao y Meylan Kao, al frente ahora de los dos negocios que abrieron sus padres allá por el 1976.. La incorporación a la familia del mediático, divertido e inolvidable semifinalista de «Masterchef», Nathan Minguell ha completado el círculo, en el que también se encuentra el prestigioso y encantador Lluis Kao, al frente de una de las bodegas más interesantes de la ciudad.
Hablar del Shangai es hablar de calidad, de buen hacer, de producto y de mucho cariño. No me canso de sus obleas rellenas del mejor Pato Pekín de la Ciudad Condal ni de sus rollitos nem vietnamita, crujientes, sabrosos y de los mejores tallarines chinos que he probado jamás (que ellos, además, aderezan con trufa negra de la mejor calidad y un huevo pocho central).
Ahora, con el Kao Dim Sum y el Mister Kao, los dos locales especializados en estos tradicionales bocados chinos, se completa la oferta. Multiplican el abanico de sabores y rellenos de los dim sum, que alcanzan en los Wanton y los Siu Mai su máxima cota. Y se les ocurren cosas como el bikini de pato pekín o el buey de mar que rogaría jamás movieran de la carta…
En definitiva, una de las mejores mesas orientales de Barcelona, para disfrutar con amigos, en familia o en soledad pues siempre encontrarás la buena compañía, calor y acogida de la familia Kao, que más que buenos chefs y gerentes son ya buenísimos amigos.

A true family business, the best Chinese restaurant in the city
For lunch or dinner to be a pleasurable time that is both enjoyable and memorable… And that is how I came to meet, many years ago now, the KAO family. José María and Mercedes, hard workers, brave and, above all, the famed parents of three gorgeous Asian children with Galician roots (long live Galicia!) who are not only beautiful on the outside, but also intelligent, coherent and with plenty of skill – demonstrated day after day by Nayan Kao and Meylan Kao, who currently run the two businesses opened by their parents in 1976. The incorporation to the family of the newsworthy, fun and unforgettable “Masterchef” finalist Nathan Minguell, has completed the circle, which also includes the prestigious and charming Lluis Kao, in charge of one of the city’s most interesting wine cellars.
To talk about Shanghai is to talk about quality, craftsmanship, product and a lot of love. I never get tired of the pancakes filled with the best Peking Duck in Barcelona, nor their crunchy and flavorful Vietnamese nemrolls, or the best Chinese noodles I’ve ever tasted (which, to top it off, are dressed with top-quality black truffle and a poached egg in the middle).
Now, along with Kao Dim Sum and Mister Kao, the two restaurants specialized in these traditional Chinese morsels, the offering is complete. The range of flavors and fillings for the dim sum are multiplied – reaching their apex in the Wanton and Siu Mai. And they have also come up with things like the Peking Duck bikinior the buey de mar(brown crab) that I would implore them never to take off the menu…
In summary, it is one of the best Asian tables in Barcelona, great for enjoying a meal with friends, family or alone, as you will always find yourself in the good company, warmth and affection of the Kao family, who, more than just good chefs and managers, are now excellent friends.
