Quillo Bar, Barcelona. I like Barcelona’s Born neighborhood. I like el Chico, a place for tapas and cocktails opened by the owners of Quillo Bar years ago on Calle Mandri – one of the places I frequent the most in the city. I like Andalusian-style tapeoand good ingredients. I like places that are modern, big, airy, with good music, a large and comfortable selection and a lot of rollo (good vibe). I like good service that is both attentive and pleasant, but not excessive. I like rumba and flamenco, and places that have the possibility for live music. I like the option of knowing good restaurants where you can have dinner on a Sunday night… Sundays exist too! And I like to eat, and eat well, and so I like Quillo Bar.
The concept is easy: good tapas, Andalusian dishes, good music and a well-priced selection of gastronomy. Without complications. And, if it’s done right (as it is here), it works. And so I predict a long and prosperous life for this Barcelona restaurant. The creamy tortilla de patatais exquisite, the crunchy and light coating of batter on the tortillas de camarones is surprising and not at all greasy, and the croquettes are fantastic, in every variety. Another highlight is the mollete de pringá(a typical pulled-meat sandwich), delicious. And the cheesecake for dessert ranks on my list of the best in Barcelona, together with the ones at La Barra de Abellán and Tickets. Here it is served warm and is excellent.
With live music, casual and informal ambiance
On weekends after 11 pm and Sundays at the aperitif/vermouth hour (before lunch) there is live music in the form of rumba. This is without a doubt one of the restaurant’s strong points, leading to another visit in order to see it in all its liveliness.
A very necessary concept in Barcelona where groups of friends and colleagues already flock after work, or for very affordably-priced dinners. There is also a 15€ lunch menu.
I really want you to love it!
