Mediamanga, Barcelona. With the guarantee of having an older brother like Mont Bar and sharing its location, the visit to this tapas bar or gastro-tavern is both original, yet irregular. It is obvious that they are still trying to find their identity and essence, to be able to offer high-quality gastronomy at prices that they have managed to keep more affordable than their next door neighbor.
Small plates for sharing, younger sibling of Mont Bar, a play on traditional cuisine
Easily prepared dishes like the sea cucumbers with fried eggs and tendons share the menu with an excellent and perfect soupy rice and the subtle free-range chicken cannelloni with cigalas(langoustines). Special mention must go to the desserts with the different “After Eight” coulant and the very good beet and raspberry cheesecake. You have to recognize the desire of the owner of both establishments, Ivan Castro, to do things well, as well as the skill of chef Javier Méndez. And one of the best parts of the visit is the music. Disco hits from the 70s and 80s liven up a meal during which your feet can’t stop tapping to the rhythm of the biggest hits from Earth, Wind and Fire, Abba, Bee Gees, Deep Purple, Elton John, Michael Jackson and Donna Summer – for me the very best era in musical history for dancing. An added bonus to keep in mind for visits with groups of friends.
