El Cinco, Barcelona. Fascinada.

Fascinated. This is how I was feeling on the night that we decided to try the new restaurant from Josep Armenteros, a fantastic place that, without a doubt, will soon become a must in Barcelona.

El Cinco is Josep’s idea, an experienced chef that has set off on his own on this adventure. The restaurant offers a set menu at lunch and a la carte dishes in the evenings and on weekends. And his proposition is an exceptional gastronomic guide. As Josep says, “You’re not going to find traditional burrata here, or what everyone else is doing…” To achieve this, he offers originality and good cuisine divided into four small and original morsels to get things going (excellent pork-cheek croquette and menorquín ensalmada, sobrasadaand Mahón cheese), dishes with an important dose of green, and incredible entrees that range from foie ravioli with eel, creme fraicheand nuts (I still dream about these), to scallops with stewed trotters, or the steak tartare made, “the way I like it,” which is to say with French fries and a fried egg on top; with the added bonus of presenting the potatoes diced together with the meat to obtain the perfect mixture between beef and tuber, delicious!

Special attention to the desserts and, of course, the locale downstairs. El 5 is located in a place where we can all remember having danced years ago at the mythical Don Chufo, Nitsa or Becool, in an area overrun with “good kids” who, starting now, will have a point of reference for Barcelona nightlife. The cocktail bar-club-event’s space rises up majestically, plastered with references to the great clandestine clubs of the 1950s with large-scale touches. For its part, the cocktail lounge is an answer to the need for a place like this in Barcelona, where one can let themselves get carried away until the wee hours of the morning.

A special mention must go to the interior designer Lázaro Rosa Violán of Contemporain Studio, who once again has managed to lend a project feelings of warmth, intimacy and sweetness, while at the same time majesty and sparkle, making it a place worthy of admiration… and of going. Everything Lázaro does goes to show what an amazing professional and good person I have the pleasure of knowing.

And there is no finer memento than a place where one wants to return again and again. To eat, to have fun, to share things, to experiment, to let themselves get swept away by the cocktails, and to simple be… The experience has every likelihood of becoming a monthly occurrence.

Don’t miss the opportunity… it will surprise you!
